Innovative architects Foster + Partners selected our sectional doors for the McLaren Technology Center. Both the car entrance doors and the fully glazed facade doors and several testing booths are Compact folding sectional doors. One of the requirements was that the doors fit into the design of the building. To do this, the doors were custom built.
The production center, opened in 2011, also installed Compact doors. At the end of the production line, the car passes three glass booths before entering the car washing booth. Each booh is opened and closed by a Full light Compact sectional door treated in epoxy.
Tailor-made sectional doors for McLaren
Just like the luxury sports cars delivered by McLaren, the sectional doors also had to be perfect. The architect required that the doors fit perfectly into the design of the space. Therefore it was decided to spray the door rails and fittings in the same color. This makes the door virtually invisible, especially when open.
Space-saving design
Unlike standard sectional doors, the Compact door folds its panels compactly above the opening. This means no rails are needed on the ceiling. This offers many advantages, both from a practical and aesthetic point of view. In this project at McLaren, the biggest advantage was that the sectional doors could be placed in so-called “boxes” or cabins. Small enclosed spaces, such as a test cabin or a car wash, are made accessible by the Compact door. The glass used for the cabins was also used in the door for a smooth transition.
